About Dr. Michelle Shin, OD
Dr. Michelle is an optometrist passionate about pediatric vision and vision therapy. She has broad experience working with the pediatric community, especially in the TK through 12 grade levels. Dr. Michelle serves patients of all ages and provides comprehensive eye exams for glasses, fittings for contact lens, and vision therapy.
As a native to Southern California, Dr. Michelle believes in giving back to the community she grew up in. She also believes clear and functional vision with both eyes is necessary to learn and excel in school and at work. While working on-site at schools all over Southern California (from the Valley and Pasadena, all the way south to San Diego), Dr. Michelle has worked with over 11,000 school-aged children (TK to 12th grade). During her time serving these children, she has witnessed first hand the power of having glasses that can make vision clear, but also the need for more than just glasses. Some students she examined had clear vision with glasses, but still had headaches, tired quickly after school (or even during class!), or saw double when reading books or using the computer — and these students thought this was normal and unrelated to vision. This underserved need was an impetus for Dr. Michelle to begin her specialty practice providing vision therapy.
Dr. Michelle graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and earned her Doctorate of Optometry degree from Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, CA. She has also performed international optometric community service work in Tanzania with Under the Same Sun.
Dr. Michelle was raised in the South Bay, and continues to enjoy the weather and beaches with her husband and two children. She loves Disneyland, traveling, crafting, reading books, checking out new eateries (especially desserts), and spending time with her family.
Dr. Michelle is fluent in English and Korean.
